Unable to Adjust the width of the panel windows workspace in Illustrtaor

Question

Somehow a giant space appeared to the right of properties panel. Even when I switch over to one of the other tabs like Color or Swatches. It's still just as wide.  When I hover over the right edge or left edge,
I get the <--> prompt, but I can't make the width of the panel narrower.  The left edge of the panel does nothing. Moving the right edge inward moves the whole window narrower, leaving the panel area just as wide. How can I adjust width of tool panel?

It looks like the space is appearing because the Appearance panel is docked below the Properties panel and is expanded fairly wide. What happens if you move the Appearance panel?

OS and Version of Illsutrator
When did this start happening? Are there any recent changes made to your system? For example, any antivirus, system updates, or web extensions installed recently.
Does resetting the workspace help resolve the issue?
Disclaimer: Please note that resetting the workspace will remove all the custom settings, and Workspace will get reset to default settings.
Does resetting Illustrator Preferences ( https://helpx.adobe.com/illustrator/using/setting-preferences.html) help to resolve the issue?
Disclaimer: Please note that resetting preferences will remove all the custom settings, and Illustrator will launch with default settings. You can also take a backup of the folders in case you want to. Location is mentioned in the article.
