Unable to change the opacity of the object in transparency panel without losing the mask object

Having an issue when using a mask. Suddenly in new update not able to change the opacity of the object in transparency panel without losing the mask object. It turns it into a solid color with no mask any time you change it from 100% Opacity. If you put an outline around the shape then it will work, but I rarely would ever want to put an outline on a shape and have never had to do this in the past. This seems a straight up program bug.

I have not found a UserVoice report, but noticed the following.

If the masked object contains transparency and is grouped with the background, the problem is visible.

If the background is moved out of the group (below the group or on a layer below it), everything looks fine.

If the masked object with transparency is not grouped, the problem appears.

Thanks @Shanesartstuff for the example, yes if the object that is masked has transparency, the mask is ignored.

I remember seeing this before, but have to search for it.

It looks like a candidate for a UserVoice bug report.

Can you share an example file?

Thanks for responding. Attached is a file showing two boxes with mattes. Top one has the Opacity set to 100% (currently the only way it's working for me) and the second box is with Opacity set at 70%. Second box shows just a solid color as the mask keeps disappearing if opacity is changed from anything other than 100%.

Hopefully you can see something in this that will be helpful.
