Unable to modify lines or images, can only grab the anchor point and move the entire image

In Adobe Illustrator, I'm unable to modify lines or images. I can only grab the anchor point and move the entire image. I can't quickly find a solution online. How can I revert to the original settings?I'm experiencing the following issue:

• I can only select and move anchor points
• I can't resize or modify shapes or images
• The problem persists even when creating a new file

I've already tried:

• Switching between the Direct Selection and Selection tools
• Restarting Illustrator
• Creating a new document

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you
