Unable to see recent files on the Illustrator home screen

Hello everyone.

With the latest update, thumbnails of my recent files are no longer visible on the opening home screen/opening screen of Illustrator. The My Files/Open Recent Files list shows the 30 most recent files  - nothing has changed here and it works.

Resetting illustrator settings doesn't help. Turning the GPU on/off does not help. Deleting older version settings/resetting current ones doesn't help either.

All methods indicated on this forum since 2019 do not work 😕😕

Some program bug - nothing can be done about it.

Has this happened to anyone else?

macOS 15.0.1 Sequoia

Illustrator 29.0

Thx Tom

Hello everyone,

We have an update from the product team! A backend fix has been applied. Please restart Illustrator to see if the issue is resolved.

If it persists, follow these steps:
1. Close all Adobe apps, including the Creative Cloud desktop app.
2. Navigate to the following folder location:
Mac: ~/Library/Caches/Adobe/CCX Welcome folder
Windows: %userprofile%\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\CCX Welcome\

3. Locate the folder named CCX Welcome and rename it to CCX Welcome.old.
4. Relaunch the Creative Cloud desktop app, then reopen Illustrator.

Let us know if this resolves the issue!

I found the solution that worked for me.
open Illustrator Settings / General - and click “Reset Preferences” and restart Illustrator. From that moment on, after save, every file is shown on the resent screen.
Hope this helps…

I’m having the same issue. Up until recently, everything worked (fine as Adobe crap ever does). Then suddenly, the home screen stopped showing any recent documents, and instead just displays a generic start page/open cloud documents - and in addition, all of the ‘presets’ are displayed in *points*, which doesn’t match my preferences - I have this set to inches.

Adobe is absolute overpriced garbage, it’s no wonder that Canva is gobbling market share like PACMAN.

Hello @spaktacular

I’m sorry to hear you’re experiencing similar issues with Illustrator. Would you mind trying to reset Illustrator's preferences as described in this article (https://helpx.adobe.com/illustrator/kb/troubleshoot-preference-issues.html) and checking if it helps?

Disclaimer: Please note that renaming preferences folders will remove all the custom settings, and Illustrator will launch with default settings. You can also save a backup of the folders in case you want to. The location is mentioned above.

If the problem persists, kindly confirm the exact version of the OS/Illustrator installed, along with a brief screen recording of the problem, so we can check this with the team.

Looking forward to hearing from you.

@Anubhav M I’m having the same issue as well. Following the steps to reset preferences did absolutely nothing (plus, the folders referenced for backing up preferences do not exist, so I had to start from absolute scratch on my preferences).

I am running Illustrator 30.3 on Tahoe 26.4.1

As Spaktacular stated, the generic startup page displays all options in pt regardless of preferences and settings. I have also ensured preferences are set to show 20 recent files, but nothing appears. If I try to open via file>  open recent files, there are files named there that do not appear on the home screen. Attempting to click through any of the other “FILES” options does not show any files either.

Interestingly, both Photoshop and inDesign recent files are working appropriately.

The Home screen shows the last files that have been edited with a particular version.

I have a couple different versions installed and also a couple different languages. The only thing that is indeed the same, is the "Your files" section with the recent AIC files. The Home screen is different. Even when I just switch the language.

That looks like a new version. Nobody here (with exceptions like you) has the 2025 version.

You may want to mention it here: https://illustrator.uservoice.com/
