Question

Unable to separate object into lines

So I'm new to illustrator, and I'm working on a project based off of a spider conch. I built the object using a combination of the line tool and the curvature tool. I joined them together as a path, but then I decided I wanted to color each shape in separately. How do I separate the line segments out so I can turn them into individual shapes I can color in? I tried using divide in pathing, but it separated them all into objects that couldn't be further separated into individual line segments. Is there anything I can do to get it working?

I think that the easiest way would be to turn the drawing into a Live Paint Object, and then use the Live Paint Bucket to fill the segments.
