Unable to use Text Tool in Illustrator CS6 on Windows 10

Hallo. I hope someone can help.

Have just re-installed my now rather old CS6.

Sadly without any results.

The problem is this: Text tool does not allow text.

I open a new page.

Take the text tool, as ever, open a box or frame and then go into it with the cursur, click into the frame and the cursur disappears.

There is only a tiny flashing black point in the top left hand corner of the frame.

However it is not possible to write.

If there is someone out there that has an idea - I can also understand German......

This is an issue that others have also had using Illustrator CS6 on Windows 10. You would be better off either staying with Windows 7 or updating to the current version of Illustrator.

Hi Adrian,

Thanks for reaching out. As Barbara mentioned above, CS applications are discontinued and are no longer compatible with today's operating systems. You can try resetting preferences after taking a back up of old preferences folders, however, attempts to troubleshoot the install could result in it becoming unusable. We strongly recommend upgrading your software to a newer version that is supported or downgrade the Operating System.

Reset preferences by following these steps:

  • Close all Adobe applications.
  • Go to Locations C:\Users\user\AppData\Roaming\Adobe
  • Rename  Adobe Illustrator and Adobe Illustrator CS6 Settings folders to Adobe Illustrator.old and Adobe Illustrator CS6 Settings.old
  • Launch Illustrator from the Creative Cloud.

This way it will keep all your existing settings in old folders and create new folders with default settings.

Regards,

Srishti
