Hi everyone,

The recent update in Illustrator is giving me an error when opening some JFIF/JPG/JPEG files. I've gone and renamed the file with the appropriate .jpg. But I'm still getting this error on certain files. Even gone as far as changing my computer settings: Computer\HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\MIME\Database\Content Type\image/jpeg - double click Extension and type in .jpg

Anyone experiencing the same thing or have a fix?

Hi @sami_9575,

Thanks for the update. Since this seems to happen only with certain images downloaded from Chrome, it's likely that those files are slightly corrupted or not properly encoded during the download. Could you please try re-saving one of those images using Photoshop or InDesign and then open it again in Illustrator to see if it works?

Also, let me know if the same issue occurs when you move the affected files out of your OneDrive folder and try opening them locally. If it still persists, please share one of the problematic files, so I can test it further. You can upload it via any cloud service like Google Drive or Dropbox, or send it via DM if it's confidential.

I'm having a similar problem since updating to Illustrator 30.0 and OS Tahoe 26.1. If I try replacing an image I get that error. In addition, if I try to place a brand new image into illustrator nothing happens. I've also tried to create a brand new file, same problems.

This renders Illustrator useless if I need to include any image into a file.

Hi Anubhav! Illustrator version is 29.5. This happens on images downloaded from Google Chrome. Some will open just fine while others give this error. I have a feeling it might just be corrupted files from a customization portal. Folder location is linked to a One Drive location.
