unprompted undo / resetting of file state - Illustrator getting more expensive & less effective

While working in a file I have been set back by hours because of an un-promted resetting of the file to a random state after a "importing artwork" message.

My machine is VERY capable with the newest tech, I have the most up to date Illustrator version as of 2/25/25 so it is NOT my machine.

Shantanu values stock value over usability. Becoming extremely dissatisfied with adobe & their apparent lack of ability to improve their programs even though the subscription cost is increasing year over year(now $60/mo).

Does anyone have a solution to this ghost undo OR (preferably) a suggestion of a different program that works for vector design work? I am moving my agency away from adobe products in general because of this kind of random issue with EVERY update on every program we use from them (after effects, premier, Photoshop).

Please describe the exact steps that lead to this.

Where did you save the file?

Did the file crash when you last saved it?

And then when opening the file you got an error?

If your computer does not match the requirements, then you can expect some issues with speed or maybe even crashing (that's why requirements exist). But saving should work although it might take very long.
