uploading old illustrator [CS5] to my new computer

I wish to upload my old illustrator program that I bought back in 2010 [CS5] on a new computer I have just bought, but its not working properly. It keeps saying the serial number is incorrect but I'm using the correct one. It may be old but it should still be valid right? Any advise?

This will generally only work on Windows. Current Mac OS cannot run it at all.
