Question

Using a Pattern Swatch to make another Pattern Swatch

Hello, I made a pattern swatch in Illustator and added it to my Swatches panel.

I now want to use it as if I would use a color in a shape.  After filling my shape with my pattern swatch, I now want to make a new tile using everything I just stated (shapes filled with my previously made design.) and then save another pattern swatch...so it's like saving a pattern swatch into a new pattern swatch.  Is that possible?

You cannot use a pattern as part of a new pattern. But it is possible to fill objects with multiple pattern fills on top of each other in the Appearance panel.

Thank you. I'll see what the Appearance panel can do.

The Appearance panel didn't help solve my problem, however, I practiced using a simple shape (star) that was filled with my 1st texture swatch and made a seamless pattern tile using the textured stars (Photo A). I saved it in the Swatches panel and filled a random rectangle with the  seamless pattern from the Swatches panel (Photo B).  I know the example is a simple pattern, nothing fancy, but it worked.

In my initial problem, I did not have a simple shape, but a shape that I United using the Pathfinder tool.  Maybe that was the problem?
