Using data from a dynamic file

I'm looking for a way to link data from external source (csv file?) to illustrator.

I've checked out variables but the problem with them is that the file is loaded once and every time data in the file changes, I have to re-load the file in each illustrator file.

The text file would contain 'best before' dates and they would change often.

The illustrator files would be product labels.

I would like to be able to re-load the file once, if some dates change there, and all my illustrator files would be updated.

I hope I have explained it well 🙂
