Using Illustrator's 3D Menu and tools

I've been using Illustrator for a lot of years, but I can't remember when the "3D and Materials" menu appeared. I've never used it, but examples I've seen have been encouraging. So where can I find the clearest, most accessible teaching package on how to use 3D in AI? I've watched a few (4-5) YouTube videos, but they move pretty fast and don't necessarily start from  a blank slate. I'm hoping to be able to produce files for simple, basic 3-D printing.

You cannot use Illustrator for that, because Illustrator does not glue the objects it creates.

You can use Illustrator to create the primitives and then use a real vector app to build the objects for 3D printing though.

Thankyou, Anubhav, for the references. I have a lot to learn, and judging by those videos, 'll need to do it on my own. One of the fast-moving videos actually compressed the entire subject into one minute. Sixty seconds.Helpful? No.
