Vectorizing a raster logo

I am not that expert in using illustrator. But i am having a problem. A logo was made using a raster shape and applied bevel&embossness in photoshop. I made similar shape in illustrator and tried to apply bevel&embossness in similar way. But it seem to be impossible. Can anyone help me out?

I have atttached the result i was able to obtain in illustrator. But i want it to be same as that of photoshop.

For logos... always start in Illustrator. PERIOD!

Reason being is vector graphics allow you to scale your logo to any size and trust me that is very important when you want to print your logo.

The cool thing with Illustrator is that you can replicate most effects in Photoshop, it just takes time practice and possibly more layers. If we saw the logo we might be able to give you some ideas on how to recreate it in Illustrator.

Just a little inspiration for you... Orlando Arocena is a vector artist that creates amzing using Adobe Illustrator. Granted his work is not logos, but this shows you how wild you can get with Illustrator if you really dive into the software!

If you want to replicate the result from Photoshop you would have to use a lot of blends, gradient meshes and/or blurring effects on your shapes. This isn't a simple process.

Why do you want to replicate it in Illustrator? I'm asking because whatever you biuld might not have the features you need (such as readiness for certain types of production and maybe even scalability could be an issue, because some effects don't behave as they should)

Yes i want to replicate the effect of Photoshop in illustrator.

I applied bevel(layer style) in photoshop to a shape.

And illustrator have (extrude&bevel) which should give the same result. But i cannot get the same result. That id my issue.

In photoshop you can apply any color in bevel&emboss. But illustrator only seem to appply white. Am i missing something? Can you help me out?

They can not and do not give the same result. You've discovered that. As it has already been stated, there are ways to get a similar look with Illustrator vectors. But it may require a stack-up of techniques that in the end defeat the purpose of scalable vector artwork anyway, not unlike having a graphic that relies on a raster effect, as you did with the Photoshop-treated version. This is why most competently designed logos have their basis in a relatively flat and simple form. Then, when an effect that can only be achieved in raster fomat is desired for a particular application, the flat version is rasterized at appropriate size for that application, the effect is applied, and the output is successful because vector scalability was exercised prior to application of the raster effect.
