Question

Wacom Cintiq12WX (DTZ 1200) tablet not working with Illustrator (nor After Effects)

Setup:
Asus UX501V Laptop Windows 10 64-bit (uptodate)
Cintiq12WX working with legacy Wacom driver (WacomTablet_6.3.40-2)
Yes, all hardware is old and out-of-date. Replacing is a great idea, but not a solution.

Tablet works in most applications, including Adobe Photoshop CC 2023!? Tablet does not work with Illustrator or After Effects (I have tried installing previous verions back to 2018). Both applications do not detect the tablet at all. When Ai or Ae applications are running and active (not minimized) the tablet will not detect the pen. When those applications are active, the pen also doesn't function on the start menu on the tablet. When Ai is minimized, the tablet functions as expected within Windows and other apps.

When the Illustrator User Interface is active, on any monitor, the pen simply stops working, cursor does not respond at all to the pen. The cursor does respond to the mouse or touchpad.

The fact that Photoshop does work is confusing but also gives me hope. Ps UI responds and pen pressue works great.

I realize this is a pretty specific and out-dated problem, but any help is greatly appreciated,

-Matt

Hi Mike,
Thanks for your assistance. I ought to have replied to your first post, but unforately I was already running that driver version and I've tried those versions of Illustrator.
Monika's post about the Github project for Mac drivers was also a dead-end.
Out of all the Adobe products I use, Photoshop (and only Photoshop) continutes to work with the Cintiq12WX. My hope is turning to frustration, but I am going to stubbornly leave this up for a bit longer.
Kind Regards,
-Matt

According to wacom for Cintiq12WX you need to use

Windows Driver

Driver 6.3.40-2 (Windows 7, 8, & 10)

38.3 MB 6/29/2020

Release notes

Download Windows Driver »

After you download the driver, see if there are some notes that tell you the exact version of Illustrator to run.

The Driver was Released on June 29, 2020

so I suspect  one of these versions will be for you, and to not go back as far as 2018

Illustrator October 2020 (25.x) system requirements

Illustrator November 2019 (24.x) system requirements

You might probably need to go back to an Illustrator version that works with that driver.

There is a Wacom driver fix available on github that makes old tablets available for newer Macs, but I can't find the same for Windows. Illustrator has been having issues even with current Wacom drivers for years, but with older ones it might get even more finicky. It's possible to have multiple Illustrator versions installed side by side. So that's what I would do.
