Hi Folks,

It's come to my attaention recently that when I want to work out size increases and reductions within Illustrator I have to come out of the program and use the computers caclulator. In this time I have forgotten the numbers I want to calculate!

Would it not be a great idea to have a 'tab/window' with a mini calculatior to perform calculations within the program?

Would be a great new feature to see in the next upgrade.

iBrads,

It could form the basis of a(n obvious) feature request, I believe.

That is the right place for the design team to see it, rather than in a post among many in this forum wher most answers are by non Adobe friends.

It might have been suggested already; you can try to have a look round and maybe join a feature already there, if any.

iBrads,

Until a new feature calculator appears or till the end of days, whichever mat occur first, you may let Illy (job description Adobe Illustrator) perform at least some of the calculations for you; she is always very friendly and eager to help. She offers all simple calculations with two figures and one operator which can be + or - or * or /, and you can do a bit of additional insertion as part of a joint effort, which can get you there in cases like scaling, and that may be just what you need.

Actually, Illy makes the calculation at full obtainable accuracy, whereas insertion of a final value (from a calculator) gives a limited accuracy by rounding to the number of decimals that is/can be included.

Let us say you wish to increase the size of an object from 54.321 pt to 98.765 pt (W or H value):

You can just use Object>Transform>Scale or DoubleClick the Scale Tool, then simply insert 9876.5/54.321 and press Enter while you hold Ctrl/Cmd.

As you can see, your contribution is to multiply the desired final size by 100 because you work in %, and you can do that by (re)moving the decimal stop (as in this case) and/or add 0 (once or) twice.
