Weird Adobe Illustrator Problem

My Illustrator file is acting weird I go to open it and it pops up with a prompt that asks about text import, but this happens with fonts that are installed in the program I have no downloaded fonts from any site other than the default ones. I click ok on the prompt and it opens up a completely blank document with no image or text! Even if the file has no text it had this same issue. I am on an Asus computer running windows 8 on all of the latest updates. Please help me get my art back!

where are they stored?

Have you tried resetting preferences to default, sometimes helps..

it is only with a few files not all of them. And I believe my settings are still default . (I don't play around with that sort of stuff)

The text import options suggest that your file might got corrupted.

It has nothing to do with fonts. It just says Illustrator can't recognize the file format.

Where did you save the file? On a network? A USB stick? Try and first download it to the harddisk, then open.
