Weird overlay in Illustrator

So I just got a new computer and I installed all my Adobe programs no problem. But when I opened my current .ai projects they all have this strange overlay on top of them that I can't click on or move or remove. It disappears once the project is exported, but it is so frustrating working on things. Any suggestions or ideas why this is happening? Picture included so hopefully explain what's happening...
