What makes Illustrator crash when I go to select a typeface?

I have no problems working in Illustrator but whenever I want to change or select a typeface, it immediately crashes.  Does anyone know why and how to fix this problem.  I have CS5 version 15.0.2.

    If Sierra or Windows 10 you might be in trouble.

    Do you have a third party font management application installed?

    • Try uninstalling this first and see if that resolves the issue.
    • or else try and ensure you have the latest version installed that the manufacturer of the plug-in/extension recommends for use in Illustrator CS5 (e.g. as this is an older version of Illustrator, you might need to use an older version of the software to be compatible).

    Some other things to try is reset the preferences for Illustrator:
