What style is this art and how can it be done in Adobe Illustrator?

Hi everyone,

First time posting here!

I'm all new to using Adobe's products and specifically Adobe Illustrator for starters.

Recently, I stumbled upon a Dune poster on Pinterest (unfortunately, I don't know who the artist is) that really caught my eye. I really love the overall style of it all, from the colors to the texture/grain.

Would someone here be able to guide me in the right direction as to what style of art this is and what process and tools I might use in Illustrator to achieve such a style?

I'm thinking it probably involves drawing the art and then using some kind of modifiers to achieve gradients and the grain.

Any tips or links to guides would be highly appreciated.

Thanks a lot!

One roughly sketched way without using plugins:

1. Draw a couple of gradient filled paths to make a sand dune. Or take a photo.
2. Draw two filled circles and give the smaller one a black to white gradient.
3. Select all and convert to greyscale.
4. Effect > Effect Gallery > Artistic > Film Grain: Play a bit with the settings.
5. Duplicate the dark planet and apply some outer glow.
6. Select all and do some colour adjustments (Edit menu > Edit Colours).
7. Refine if desired.

Or at night.

You are welcome, Ambivalent Artisan.

And thank you for your kind words.

Focusing on the term, I actually overlooked this part, "and what process and tools I might use in Illustrator", which is exactly the solution that Kurt gave.
