Question

When using the Circular tool, is there an option to specify the aspect ratio?

If I need to keep creating ellipses of different sizes with certain proportions in Illustrator, is there an option to fix this numerically so that I can continue to create circles of constant proportions?

hyojoong,

A) If you can start out with two known values of W or H, you can:

A1) Insert the values in the W and H box in the Transform panel, then press Enter to have the first Ellipse;

B) If you wish to have a certain proportion between W and H, you can:

B1) Insert the desired value of W and H box in the Transform panel, then Ctrl/Cmd+Enter (hold Ctrl or Cmd and press Enter) to create a circle, then change the last value by multiplication or division (such as adding *1.25 for setting the second value to 1.25 times or 25% higher than (or 125% of) the first one, or adding /1.25 for setting the second value to 1.25 times or 25% lower than the first one or alternatively adding *0.8 for setting the second value to 0.8 times or 80% the first one which is the same thing;

In either case for the following Ellipses, or if you already have an Ellipse that just needs copied in other sizes, you can, wtih the first Ellipse selected:

2) Ctrl/Cmd+C+V of Ctrl/Cmd+C+F to copy the first Ellipse, or Alt/Option ClickDrag the to move it, then change the size as desired by changing the W or H value as desired and pressing Ctrl/Cmd+Enter.
