White space surrounding canvases in AI, images and type look wonky

I'm a fairly new AI user and have no idea what I did to get my file to look like below. 

The word "design" is supposed to be gold, and there is a flower image missing, and everything is white beyond the canvases. I noticed that sometimes when I scroll down I get black lines shooting out from the image. WTH did I do?!
