Why can't I open a large file that I created in AI?

I created a 335MB file in Ai. I initially saved it as an Ai file but then saved as a PDF. I was working on it as a PDF file I saved it. Then I tried opening it to make some more updates. File will not open at all. I’ve never had this problem before. I have more then enough memory on my computer. It just doesn't make sense. I deleted Ai and uploaded again. Thought maybe there’s something wrong with my version but nothing is helping.

    is this an acrobat issue?

    I don’t think so since it’s still a file that can be worked on in Ai.

    I’m confused. The file can still be opened in Adobe Illustrator but won’t open in Acrobat? Or does the file just not open at all in either application?
