Why can't I save a gradient swatch

Hi! So I am confused what's happening here. I have been working in my document creating gradients and then I am able to use the + sign in the swatches panel to save those gradients (per usual). Now, I am taking a gradient I've created in another file and copy/pasting it to new file. When I do this and then try to save this new gradient to swatches, I notice that the plus sign is grayed out. Why can't I save this gradient? Someone plz help, I might be spacing on something at this point but not sure and feeling frustrated lol. Thank you in advance!

Is it a Freeform gradient? You cannot save those to the Swatches panel.

Can you let us know if it is a freeform gradient as @Ton Frederiks suggested. If not, please show us the gradient from the original file with the layers panel expanded and the gradient selected and the layers panel from the new file as well so that we can get a better idea of what is going on.
