why do compund paths added to new library auto convert to linked file? illustrator 24

Some, but not all of my old libraries contain objects that are compound paths and when placed in either an old file or new file are directly editable. If I make a new library, and drag compound path objects into it, the new libraries covert directly editable compound paths from paths to linked files that are now longer directly selectable and changeable, etc. I don't want to have to objects change from compound paths when placed in a new library. I cannot take the chance that they will not be compound paths (or individual object) in every document- I need the objects to retain the paths so that they behave the way they used to. I know that I can use the 'edit original' function, copy the path and then paste it back into the document I am working on. I am working with the presumption that if I use'edit original' function without just copying the path, it will (i think) create a global change in that (now) linked file, why does a compound path have to convert to a linked file and require this extra step? how to I disable this? This is maddening and will quickly add up to hours of extra work. Please help!
