Question

why do 'gaps' show up in striped pattern at certain zoom levels?

Hi, I made a striped pattern for a client (to be printed on fabric). The pattern looked fine at 100%, but when you zoom in, 'gaps' appear between lines at certain zoom levels, then disappear when you zoom in further. I didn't think much of it, but know the first test sample shows these gaps clearly! Has anyone come across this issue before and know how to fix it? Thanks in advance! Olu

Is the gap showing where the pattern tiles? Maybe the pattern tile you created doesn’t repeat with perfect alignment.

    Hi!

Can you upload a screenshot of your image at 100% and then at the larger percentage to see the problem? That would really help.

    Thanks!

Normally it has to do with antialiasing where the two patches of the pattern are masked in a way that divides a pixel on screen. Antialiasing was necessary when screens were lower resolution, but with a 4k screen you can turn smoothing or antialiasing off if you don't want to see these hairlines. (In acrobat you can also turn of the smoothing, and if the white gaps disappear they will not print).

When exporting they may appear if your graphics is rendered with smoothing or antialiasing. Averaging or smoothing is maths and figures need to be rounded up or down, and sometimes there is a gap.

It could be a mathematical glitch.  Sometimes this happens with vector software.  But I am srue there is a way to get past it.

I thought digitally, but I'll check with my client!

There are so many options, so "digitally" won't be sufficient.

Did you create a design with that pattern applied to an object?

Did you send them the pattern and they used one of those farbic printing services such as spoonflower?
