Why do strokes do this? And how can I fix and avoid them?

Every now and then this kind of anchor point thing happens I don't know what to call it but here's a picture does anyone know why it happens and how you can fix it?

Do you mean that they are sharp pointed? You can decrease the Limit in the Stroke Panel.
