why I cannot see anchor point and handles of paths after update?

After updating Illustrator, I can't see anchor point and handles of paths. I didn't change any settings or asked to. This happens EVERY TIME after update.

Can this be prevented? can I set the update NOT TO CHANGE my settings?

Kind regards.

You can set the update to not change your settings, but at the moment it's not recommended to migrate old settings unfortunately.

The default setting is that Edges are shown. So when preferences are reset, you should not experience what you are experiencing.

Please try and reset the preferences. How to set preferences in Illustrator

(use the rename folder method, because it can be reverted)

Maybe your Edges are hide, go to View -> Show Edges, or hit CTRL/Command and H.

Thanks, I didn't know this short cut works in Illustrator as well. This is a great and useful tip!
