I want to combine two shapes. merge. No, it wont do it. Yes, not a compound path. yes Ive exapnded it. yes they are the same colour. yes they are overlapping. no, it wont merge. new document no its wont merge. new document two new shapes - yes it will merge. I know usually it comes down to human error - but honestly when theres two thing I want to merge - just write the code so it just merges for gods sake. Cannot wait for Adobe fall out of favour with the industry.

Yes, sometime working in Illustrator can be frustrating. Can it be easier for the user? IDK. Personally there is a huge learning curve learning the nuances of Illustrator. Really have to approach Ai in small steps and make notes as you progress. Best of all the Community Experts always willing to help. However, you have to frame your question in order get a response. They could also use a video or screen shot of the situation to really help. There is also a very good reason why Adobe is the industry standard in graphics. Also make suggestions or ideas constructive in how to improve the applications. If you peruse the ideas submitted in the past you can see how they listen and respond. Sorry for my crap post. Not to be arrogant but I've been using illustrator for 20 years. Some (maybe 2-5) basic feature which is work pretty flawlessly now don't. With no idea on how to resolve having also been online to check I'm not doing something wrong.

I'm essentially trying to merge two shapes. And it just won't merge no matter what I try. So I'm at a loss.
