Question

Why is my shape printing transparent?

I have a shape that was created in Adobe Illustrator, that has a clipping mask. When I go to print it or save my page as a PDF, it comes out transparent...the background picture is showing through. It looks fine on my screen (no transparency). When someone else opens the PDF on their screen, on a different computer, it is not transparent. How can I fix this on my computer...is it a setting or what?

No need for a clipping mask on the banner shape. In Attributes, set the shape as knocking out or release over print.

It would help to see screenshots, but it sounds as though it might be related to the overprint setting for that object. With the file on-screen In Illustrator, choose View > Overprint Preview. Does the object disappear?

When I click on overprint preview, then it shows up as transparent on my screen. I don't want it to be transparent and it is not set to be transparent. The part that baffles me is that if another computer opens up the PDF, it is fine.

How do you and the other person open the file?

Please tell us exactly step by step. Which app you use, which tools you use?

What is in the file? Where does the background come from?

Please show screenshot. We can't see what's on your screen or in your mind.

Difficult to say without seeing what you see, can you share the pdf?

    Maybe overprint is used.
