Which input device are you using?

Does this only happen with that template or also in a newly created file?

Do you press D at any time? In that case fill and stroke will reset to the default.

Can you turn off "New art has basic appearance" in the menu of the Appearance panel.

Thanks for your reply.

I'm sorry but I don't know what you mean by input device. I'm using a macbook if that's what you mean?

I'm not pressing D.

I can't find 'new art has basic appearance' anywhere. All I can see under appearance is fill/stroke/opacity.

Update: I think what was happening to make the line skew off to the right is I was pressing shift then click instead of click then shift when dragging down at the pin head. I've managed to resolve this issue now, but I'll likely be posting again for some other issue I'm having!

Glad you could solve it!

The Appearance panel is in Window > Appearance.

ANd your input device would be a mouse or stylus or something.
