Why isn't there some sort of feature or add-on involving a random splitter for images for mosaics?

Mosaics are a nice art form. I am somewhat confused as to why something like a image splitter generator isn't a thing for Illustrator. What I mean is an image should be able to be split like a mosaic, via a generator that allows custom ranges of shape sizes, amount of shape sides, the part of the image you want split, etc.
