Width tool and cutting problem

So I have this bit of linework I wanted to edit. It seems like I'm doing wrong or something. I used the width tool and wanted to cut some bits of afterwards. As you can see in the screenshots.

    It is just not possible, everytime you cut the line, it will apply the profile to the parts.

    The width profile will be applied to every part of the cutted line.

    You may want to outline the stroke first before dividing it to keep the shape.

    If I outline the stroke then I'm not able to edit it anymore with the 'Width' tool. I want to be able to cut it without this weird transformation going on. Like, litterally cut in half.
