Question

Window buttons missing on MacOS

Every now and then, the window icons (close, minimize, maximize) in the top left of my illustrator disappear all of a sudden:

When I hide all palettes using the tab key, the buttons appear a bit further down:

I still need to figure out the steps to reproduce this problem. It might have to do with me using an external ultra-wide monitor, but it could still be happening on the internal macbook screen only as well.

Nonetheless, it's very annoying.

Hello @SiLi,

Would you mind confirming the OS/Illustrator version and if the problem is replicable on the MacBook's internal display as well, so I can better assist you?

Looking forward to hearing from you.

Hi @Anubhav M

Ok it's been a long time since I posted this. I am pretty sure the problem has to do with connecting and disconnecting an external display. I am on the latest versions of all adobe apps, and it's also happening in photoshop.

These steps work on my end to reproduce the problem:

  1.  Connect an external display (+keyboard and mouse) to the macbook
  2.  Close the macbook lid
  3.  Open photoshop
  4.  Use rectangle or the raycast window manager to snap/tile the image to any side or corner

The window buttons will stay hidden until the window is "unsnapped" again.

I haven't tested if this would also be the case with the native macOS window tiling.

Hi @SiLi,

Thanks for sharing these additional details and helping narrow it down. Could you please check if the same behavior occurs when using macOS's native window tiling instead of Raycast? You can also try running your Mac in Safe Mode to see if the issue persists without third-party apps running: Start up your Mac in safe mode.

Please give this a try and let me know your observations, so I can review further.
