Windows - mouse wheel causes lag after first save or share button

I'm trying to figure out how to troubleshoot this. I thought it was related to my file at first, but it's not. I create a new document, created just a rectangle. I can zoom in and out, pan quickly using the mouse wheel and Alt. Everything is fine, until I save. Then I have to close illustrator and open it again or zooming in or out causes a 1 to 3 second delay before it responds after the zoom.

Once I've saved the file I can close illustrator again, then open the file and it's fine. I can even make changes and save multiple times, and it's fine. Zoom in and out, pan, no problems. Unless I hit the share button. I don't even have to create a share. Once I hit the share button, that sets it off again. I can pan as fast as I want. But zooming, as soon as I stop zooming, there's a lag.

This is Only if I use the mouse wheel to zoom or pan. If I use Ctrl+ or Ctrl- it's fine. And using the zoom tool I can drag and it even smoothly zooms.

Again, it only happens after the first time a file is saved, or if I touch the share button.

I've tried testing this on my desktop setup (a Dell XPS system running Win 11 Pro) and can't duplicate the problem. Mouse wheel performance and panning by pressing down on the mouse wheel still works alright. I don't like the big jumps in view with the mouse wheel though, which is why I usually opt for the Ctrl+Spacebar shortcut to use animated zoom.

What kind of graphics board or chipset is in your computer? Also how much RAM is installed? I'm running NVidia's Studio Driver (not the Game Ready Driver) for the RTX graphics board in my computer system.

Hi @andymator,

Thanks for sharing the detailed description, and I'm sorry for the trouble this is causing. Could you please confirm which version of Illustrator and Windows you're using? Also, let me know if the issue occurs with both new and existing files.

Please try testing the behavior in Safe Mode to rule out any third-party plugins or extensions that might be interfering. You can follow these guides:
Windows: https://adobe.ly/3JQAcGB
macOS: https://adobe.ly/3JCrH1P

Additionally, could you confirm if this lag happens only with your current mouse or if it occurs with other mice as well?

In the meantime, try resetting Illustrator preferences to clear any corrupted cache or configuration that might be triggering the lag. You can follow the steps here: https://adobe.ly/444BTab. Once done, relaunch Illustrator and check if the issue persists when using the mouse wheel to zoom or pan.

Looking forward to your update.

Abhishek
