windows won't remain fixed in illustrator

Sometimes when I try to click on a window in Illustrator that I've already set up on my workspace, like 'Properties' or 'Layers, it will disappear again when clicked a second time (the time I need to access it). I just want it to stay, why won't it remain in place? Is there a locking feature? It's very annoying.

I'm on a 2021 Macbook Pro. Illustrator version is 28.1 45
