wrong color of a snip screenshot in Illustrator

Hi, probably someone can help me with my problem: I use Windows, Chrome Browser, Snipping Tool, Illustrator 2022 and PS Elements. If a make a screenshot and paste it to Illustrator the colors of the pictures are wrong - too dark. Pasting the same content to PS Elements works correctly.

I tested it with colormode CMYK and RGB, no difference

Probably not correctly. It only looks like you want it to look.

When pasting this screenshot directly into Illustrator there's not a lot you can change afterwards.

Since there are so many apps involved, setting up color management might get complicated. But you should at least set up color management in Photoshop Elements and Illustrator. And it should be harmonized.

What you can try: Paste that image into PS Elements. Or if possible save it directly from that snipping tool. Make sure you embed a color profile. Most probably sRGB.

Then place it in Illustrator (linked).

Hi, following your hints, I switched to RGB default, started creating a new grafic in RGB and voila.. it works !!

I don't know what of or where you're making your screenshot (web browser?) but export to pdf (or print to pdf with color management) then place is a better route, although it's still not going to be as perfect as you're hoping: it's like being in Bognor Regis and expecting it to be the same experience as St Tropez...

As Jacob mentioned, it is probably caused by lack of color management.

It may be useful to turn on the Color Management Policies warnings for missing or mismatched profiles in your Edit > Color Settings...

Martin,

Apart from using colour management (synchronization)/calibration yourself, there is little you can do.

When all sorts of viewers see your artwork, it will be with all sorts of devices/software, mostly uncalibrated/unmanaged

You can only try to minimize the inevitable colour mismatch out there.

There is no point in using CMYK for web/screen tasks.
