Hey people!
I have a workspace of 4500x5400 pixels. Unfortunately, AI exported the PNG to me in 18570x22500 pixels instead of 4500x5400 pixels.

Just export at 72 ppi to keep the same amount of pixels.

It's very confusing, but Illustrator doesn't really have a workspace size in pixels. Yes, it pretends to! But that "pixel size" is just a size in 1/72 inch.

When you export, if your ppi matches (that is, if ppi is also 72) then you get a a PNG which is (rather by accident) just the size you expect.

It's always been this way, so I guess you used to have 72 ppi selected in export.

OK, now it's back!

How come it worked before without any problems and now it doesn't anymore?

The pixel amount you mentioned is what you get when you export at 300 ppi.
