XMP dc:title to pdf

I noticed an 'undesirable' behavior with my Illustrator Save-As PDF command: it automatically appears to set the metadata <dc:title> to the actual file name instead of the actual <dc:title> in my AI document.

I tried both Save-As and Save-Copy.

Yet, when you actually open the PDF and set its dc:title in Illustrator and do the same, now the dc:title is set correctly and can be seen as such in Acrobat.

I'd rather wish to not have to re-open the PDF and re-set that title as it's one extra couple of steps which I expected to not have been an obstacle in the first place.

Hi Vasily, you are of course correct…

Let’s say that I start a new document using the “Video and Film” profile preset option…

Then I go to File > File Info… The document title field is populated with “Video and Film”. Then if I save this unsaved file, this default entry is now saved with the document name instead.

I am guessing that even if you were to script the save as PDF step to include the addition of a new/different title metadata entry, that it would be overwritten with the filename?

It is of course possible to change this after saving using Bridge, ExifTool etc… But as you say, you should not have to!

    Although I have not tested, yes I believe this would be the case. The next workaround for someone in dire need (not I, as for my current task it's only a dozen or so documents at most) - the routine would be to first save the pdf and then with script over write the XMP dc:title. I was thinking, since some new work is pulling me in XMP direction, I'd made an addition to my dataset processing workflows the 'meta-from-variable-data' setter script. Not sure how many people would find it useful, but they might- it would be taking that csv data and making some useful keywords out of that, etc. Yet come to think of it, I need to look over those batch csv metadata technique links which you describe in one of your blogs, to see how people have approached this, to see if that sort of csv data would fit in with the VI csv data.

    Hi Vasily,

    did you do a bug report at Illustrator UserVoice back then?

    As I tested today the behavior did not change with e.g. Adobe Illustrator CC 2019 23.0.3.

    Document Titel will change to the PDF's file name automatically.

    FWIW: Entry in Author will not change. That's still the same as in the Illustrator AI file.
