Question

XP Pen delay

I was recently gifted an XP-Pen Artist 12 and set it up finally. Tried it out on windows whiteboard and there were no issues whatsoever, it recognized every input I made without any error. I tried using it on illustrator and noticed there is about a 0.5s-1s delay before illustrator recognizes my pen's input. This is driving me insane because I draw in very fast strokes, so half the time it doesn't pick up my strokes.

I've tried looking online and it seems a lot of people are also having issues like this. Is there anything that can be done about this?

I thought it was initially a problem with my pen or a software issue, but it works fine on non-adobe software...

Tha is odd. I use and stream with my XP-Artist 24 Pro and there is no delay at all.

Are your XP-Pen drivers updated?
Is your operating system updated?
If you are on PC make sure all component drivers are also updated.

Sometimes Adobe software is reliant on all drivers and system things being updated.  Not sure why... but it could be the case.

As far as I am aware everything on my laptop is up to date, I check pretty regularly for updates. What's weird is that it's only illustrator, photoshop works fine and other programs work fine.

Hello Sandoom2,

Sorry to hear about this experience. I would request you try Turning off Windows Ink in the XP Pen settings and relaunch Illustrator to check if it helps.

Looking forward to your response.

Thanks,

Anubhav

Hey Anubhav,

Tried to do as you suggested but it's still the same. It's weird, if I take my time and draw slowly it'll input the strokes, but if I try making strokes very fast (in less than a second) the software wont register them.

Hello sandoom2,

Thanks for confirming that. Would you mind trying resetting Illustrator's preferences by following the steps shared in this article (https://helpx.adobe.com/illustrator/kb/troubleshoot-preference-issues.html) and checking if it helps?

Disclaimer: Please note that resetting preferences will remove all custom settings, and Illustrator will launch with the defaults. You may take a backup of these settings from the location mentioned in the article.

Also, try removing and reinstalling the XP Pen drivers and share your observations.

Looking forward to hearing from you.

Thanks,
Anubhav
