Question

Zero Byte jpegs

I am running Ai 29.4 on an HP Windows laptop. I recently created a number of graphics and was asked to send jpegs to a colleague to drop into a mock-up. Using Export As and sending to jpegs at 300dpi, 3 of my files returned zero byte files. I tried several times with the same result. Having reduced the images to 72dpi, the files created fine. Is there a max file size for 300dpi or am I doing something wrong?

What is the size of the Illustrator object/artboard that you are trying to export?

Hello @David37826145pvjb,

Could you check if you are not exporting to a folder located on an external/removable drive or a folder that is synced like Google Drive/Dropbox/etc., as that can sometimes cause problems?

Additionally, kindly share a small screen recording of your workflow and a link to a sample file here or via DM after uploading them to any file-sharing service, so I can check it on my end.

Looking forward to hearing from you.

Hi @David37826145pvjb,

Thanks for sharing the details! Illustrator doesn’t have a hard file size limit for JPEG exports, but issues like this can sometimes happen with complex files or limited system resources.

Could you try flattening the artwork before exporting and see if that helps? You might also try exporting just a portion of the artwork at 300dpi to check if it goes through successfully.

Also, could you let me know the exact version of Illustrator you're using (for example, 29.4.1) and your Windows version? And if you're okay with it, feel free to share one of the files that's giving you trouble so that I can test it on my end.

Looking forward to hearing back from you.

Hi Abhishek,
Thanks for reaching out. I am on Windows 11 for business and, try as I might, I cannot get Adobe to tell me more than it is Ai version 29.4
I would be happy to share a file but the three that were the issue all exceed the 47mb file size limit on here.
