Zoom on Illustrator doesnt work the same way on all files

I click the zoom tool and click then drag left to zoom out and right to zoom in. Perfect.

But on my other documents, I click and drag and a box shows up every time. Either left, right, up or down. It always zooms into the box. I can zoom out only when hold Alt+click.

How do I fix this...
