Question

Selling/Distributing Textures created using Substance Sampler

Before I sell/distribute texture packs created using Adobe Sampler, I's like to make sure I understand the Adobe Substance EULA correctly.

I currently create new textures by:

- Adding a Base Material

- Adding and editing multiple filters to achieve desired result

- Exporting as jpeg including required channels

Can I distribute the image files created?

Can I use Adobe's Starter Asset Library Materials as a starting point, before adding filters to achieve the look I want, or would this make the exported images not suitable for distribution?

Can I use materials downloaded from the Adobe Substance Online Library as a starting point?

From what I understand, this would be distributing a Modified Work and would not be breaking the EULA (https://wwwimages2.adobe.com/content/dam/cc/en/legal/servicetou/Adobe-Substance-3D-Assets-Addl-Terms-en_US-20220322.pdf).

Any help would be really appreciated.

Im curious of do you sell textures through community assets or are you selling textures somewhere else.  I have been creating a lot of custom textures and wanted to know where to sell them, thanks.

Hello @michaelp78008416,

I don't know where Art3D-User sells its materials, but just so you know The Substance 3D Community Assets doesn't sell anything. Every asset from this library is made by users and shared for free.

I personally don't know many platforms to sell materials, but I know Artstation has a Marketplace where you can sell 3D assets.

Best regards,

Hello,

What you described is considered as Modified Work.

You can use Adobe Substance Online Library as a base but with clear modifications and improvements.

Hi,
You'll find exact description of those terms here:
https://wwwimages2.adobe.com/content/dam/cc/en/legal/servicetou/Adobe-Substance-3D-Assets-Addl-Terms-en_US-20220322.pdf

1.1. “Larger Work” means a new work of authorship created that incorporates an unmodified Substance 3D Asset.
1.2. “Modified Work” means a new work of authorship created, at least in part, by modifying a Substance 3D Asset.
1.3. “Substance 3D Asset(s)” means Substance 3D assets (including, but not limited to, materials, models, lights, atlases, and decals) that are made available on the Substance 3D Assets (or 3D Assets) webpage, the Substance Launcher, Creative Cloud Desktop, or any other Adobe-owned properties where such assets are clearly identified as Substance 3D Assets or 3D Assets.

It means you might do what you want with your assets, as long as they are made by you (even if starter assets are involved, they are made for this).

Then you have to refer to the plateform where you share or sell your content (some has specific requirements and guidelines).
If we refer to the guidelines of the Substance 3D Community Adobe (where you are allowed to share your assets) :
https://substance3d.adobe.com/substance-share-community-guidelines/

You might also refer to the Intellectual Property Rights of your country (DMCA) to know more about your rights as a creator.

Thank you
