Is it too much to ask to have some updated tutorials to help learn this software? There seems to be so many differences (and bugs) between those from 2 years ago now. I'm trying to follow along to the 'official' tutorials on the Adobe channel - I can figure my way around some of the changes but not others. For example - this tutorial that uses the pattern filter - the filter looks completely different with none of the options shown available. I realise I can use the texture generators but they are not giving the same results. Honestly, this could be brilliant software but it's being let down because of out of date resources. What version of Sampler was used for these videos?

Indeed ~2 years ago we change the behavior of masks for most of our filters/effects and we took advantage of that situation to make them more powerful with new customizable parameters. Those changes allow users to gain more control, but the downfall is that some of our tutorials can look a bit outdated.

 

That being said, the global workflow usually stays the same. As instance, I personally really like this tutorial (Sampler was still Alchemist) because it shows a very powerfull workflow to make a 3D scan tileable. 

 

However, I admit that it is easier to follow a tutorial when the software is up-to-date. In fact, you can already find multiple tutorials with the latest mask behavior:

 

Make a Carbon material

 

Make a breathable fabric

 

By definition and as long as we're updating the software, most tutorials will be outdated. If you feel like you can't find a solution to your problem, you can also ask us on this forum/Discord/Reddit.

    ah ok, thanks. The Discord server looks like it should be a great help. I honestly think Sampler is amazing but massively overlooked in the 3d community. Designer maybe a more powerful app but tbh, I'm not intersted in spending hours learning about even more nodes when I can get the materials I want in Sampler in a fraction of the time. I love the results I can get from my own reference photos and when combined with AI it's unbeatable! The serious drawback imo is the lack of consistant and up to date resource material - it feels like Adobe has all but forgotton this app and I only hope it doesn't pull the plug on it in the near future
