Autorecover feature turned off by default? Why?!

Was almost done with a project, saving periodically. Photoshop Beta crashes. "Oh, no bother. I'll just pull up the recovery fi-" The autorecover folder is empty... "What?" I check settings, and the autorecover feature is turned off?! "Why?! It's so useful. It's the safety net!" I just lost about half an hour of work because a very useful feature is turned off. I would never ever turn it off myself. I can only assume this is a mistake or bug of some kind. I feel like I'm skydiving and my reserve parachute was never packed. Please fix.
