Question

Default type size photoshop Beta

Does not work. Cannot set a default text size--it changes randomly everytime when going from LR Classic to Photoshop Beta even though I have set the text size previously with no file open in PS. And each time the text is set to a different random size.

Yes, this is a very annoying bug. I have tried everything, including using
actions, but nothing works to maintain the font size. I am wondering if
these community posts are just to make users feel like at least someone is
listening, but no one at Adobe is actually doing anything about the problem.

Hey all, here is what the team came back with:

"Customers can turn off the new behavior by setting DefaultFontSize 0 in PSUserConfig.txt."

What this code flag is: When enabled the DefaultFontSize option calculates the default font size based on document resolution and zoom factor. When a new document is created or an existing document without type layers selected is opened the font size will be reset to the newly calculated default font size. Also, the leading will be set to "Auto". Previously, the default font size was always 12 pt. and sometimes this would be too small depending on resolution and zoom factor. Disabling this option will return legacy/default functionality.

As an additional user, I tested this (Windows 10; Photoshop Beta 24.7.0). After setting font, style, pt size, and color with no documents open, any new documents opened after retain all settings except for the pt size, which reverts to 24 pt. What's even stranger is that I changed to another font, and the size switched to 38.25 pt, and now it's stuck there, lol. I also tested with different Preferences settings, but it didn't have any effect.

@justineW are you not able to select Ps beta as an external editor in LrC?

Cory,
I updated PS Beta this morning and the problem still persists.
I am using Beta because on some photos I am trying out generative fill and
it works really well. Some of the photos are over a hundred years old and
areas are missing. Generative fill works better than the tedious stamp
tool.
I will probably switch back to PS.
I think the problem with Beta has something to do with changing the
resolution from 72 to 300.

Thank you for the detailed explination @justineW curious if Ps release version works for you, why are you using Ps beta for this workflow?

Have you updated to the recent Ps beta to see if this issue persists? Adobe Photoshop Version: 24.7.0 20230718.m.2245 afb5f03 x64

Workflow:
I start with Lightroom Classic and Photoshop Beta open. (I have to start
with PS Beta already open because if I try to open PS from within LR, by
choosing "Edit in Photoshop",I am not given the choice of which version to
open and it seems to randomly open one or the other. The PS Logo in the
upper left is always the PS logo, never the Beta, so it is confusing. This
is another bug.)

I am working on thousands of family photos and preparing them for printing,
so I have automated with actions and tried to streamline the process.

I select a photo in LR, right click and choose Edit in PS. I am working
with tifs, 72 ppi which I convert to 300 ppi. One of the final steps is
adding text before saving the file as a layered tiff. I always use
Copperplate Medium, white, 8 pt, centered, on a black background.

I have previously set the default type in the beta version, but the text
never defaults to the correct size, so there is an extra step in changing
the text size. I find no consistency in the text size that appears. I do
not have this problem with Photoshop 2023.

I have tried setting up a paragraph style, but that also shows up with a
plus sign indicating overrides (the size) that I can't get rid of. The size
of the type is always wrong, never 8 pt.

I have not had any luck importing a paragraph style from another file
either.

Let me know if you would still like screen shots, more detail, and if there
is a solution to this problem.
Thanks.

Hi @justineW could you share a workflow that you are using so we can try to reproduce the issue? Any screenshots or video showing this as well could be very helpful.
