escape no longer deselects

I'll be using the laso or poly laso tool and i want to abort the selection, but Esc no longer does it. I actually have to complete a selection of some kind. This is a bug because if I make a good selection, accidentally add to the selection, i can no longer escape and use the select last command. Now i've lost that selection.
