Question

Generative AI Resolution

In the past it was mentioned Adobe was looking at higher resolution AI in the future. That was a year ago. I wondered if Adobe can give us even a hint of if higher rez is coming near term or not?

And on the topic of resolution. Generative AI actually doesn't do 1024 X pixels cleanly. Image is blurry compared to original image. I have to drop down to close to 512 X pixels generative AI to get a good resolution match in my nature work. It's been that way since the upgrade in rez.

Nevertheless, the new rez increase from last spring is miles better than how it used to be prior.

Thanks.

Hi Deven.  Where are you at right now with this?  The Firefly engine has quadrupelled resolution to 2048 x 2048.  You can move the Styles > Visual Intensity  to the right for maximum detail.  There is also Enhance Detail that doubles the resolution of the generated content. (icon in the top left corner of each variation in the Properties Panel.

Outside of this there some amazing Ai upscaling tools now.  I use Topaz Photo Ai that does an amazing job, but is a little bit expensive.  I just tried it on a random stock image, and this is what a 4X upscale looks like.  (click to view full screen)

Thank you for your response. In Photoshop at least, nothing has changed in rez since last spring with what I do. Right around 512 px is what is needed to be a close rez match. What I said earlier still applies. My work requires PS because I'm working on 300K pix psb files.

If there's a rez change in Firefly, I don't use that program, but I thought they were the same engine between the two. The enhance detail is not useful for my work, unfortunately. Thanks also for the Topaz recommend. It is a valid point. I am actually a beta tester for them. It's amazing software.

You need to look at Topaz Photo Ai.  I was put onto it by Lisa Carney, who works for the Hollywood TV and movie industry making artwork with Jesus Rameriz (The Photoshop Training Channel).  They work at the resolution allowed by the Firefly engine, and then upscale up to 6X with Photo Ai.  If you start with a good quality original then the upscaled image will be equally good, or even better because of how good its denoise and sharpening are.  It would be fair to say that these two people changed how I work with Photoshop and content creation.
