Generative expand, then adding filter or adjustments, only does original part

Hi Guys, 

Just wondering if anyone knows wht this happens, when I use generative expand, then add a filter, or even an adjustment, it will only apply the filter or adjustment to the original area, I thought I found out why, and found the adjustments work if you are on the generative expand part, but when you apply filters, this doesn't work at all, the filter either won't apply at all or it only applies to the new expanded area, if you do on the background image, the filter only shows on the original portion & leaves the expaded area original, if you can get the filter to work on the expanded area, then you get a line where the two areas join. No matter what I do, I can't seem to have the filter or adjustment layer cover the expanded area. Ive tried adding the adjustment layer or filter first then expanding, that doesn't work either. Please help I am stuck.
