Icon is slightly different and Beta does not show up in right-click "open with" options

It's interesting that all of my Beta program icons that show on my taskbar in Windows 11 have a slight shadow to them, except for Photoshop. That in itself is odd but not concerning, however, Beta does not show up in my list of programs when I right click on an image and choose "open with". Photoshop shows up, but not Photoshop Beta. If I have Beta already open, then choosing the regular Photoshop option will open it in the Beta version. However, if I don't have Beta open, choosing the Photoshop option opens the standard version of Photoshop and not the Beta version.

Thanks for the sysinfo @mondoblondo123 here are couple things about what you posted:

Some of the icons have the drop shadow in them and some don't. The beta icon doesn't contain the shadow. Microsoft also varies in this regard; the new outlook = no shadow, the old outlook, shadow.

If you launch Ps release or beta first, send to workflows are intercepted by the running version of Ps; the OS doesn't differentiate the running EXEs unless you manually launch them separately. You can also select 'other application' in the 'open with' sub menu and add Photoshop beta to the list, but since the Photoshop.exe process is named identically between Ps and beta, Windows will just open whichever version of Ps is already running, or the one you selected as 'always open with'.

Thank you for the response. I mentioned the icon only because I didn't know if that was an indication that it was an incomplete or corrupt installation, which could explain why Beta doesn't show up in the programs to "open with" when right-clicking on the file. When I use the "open with" command, I can go in and choose Beta and the "always" open with it, but it still defaults to the standard installation. It's not really an issue, just inconvenient, but I thought I would report it in case there is an issue preventing the system from recognizing Beta as a viable option.

As far as the Ps version running, I generally don't have any version of Ps running as I tend to close it when I'm done with what I'm doing. Every once in a while, I will have opened Ps (either version) and end up having to go into Task Manager to close the executable because it is stuck. I can't open the program until I kill the frozen executable as it will just continue to pile up more of those in Task Manager, which disallows the program opening. It happens, it's a Windows OS so I expect glitches. That part is not much of a concern, but I thought I'd mention it just in case.

If yoiu look at the attachment called "Shadows.jpg", that shows them. The Illustrator and Bridge Beta version icons have a shadow. The Photoshop Beta version does not, and the standard InDesign icon has no shadow. It's been that way since I first downloaded Beta, shortly after it was available. I just didn't think to post it.
