Question

Installing Photoshop Beta replaced Photoshop

I wanted to try Photoshop Beta. The instructions I read indicated it would install along with Photoshop and you could run both simultaneously. Instead it replaced Photoshop and it didnt work ass a plugin from Lightroom. I had to uninstall the Beta. Where did I go wrong with such a simple process?

@jamesgerboc it is possible to have both the release Ps and the beta Ps on the same computer. You don't have to pick or chose which to have, you can have both.  Where did you see the instructions that were confusing? Here is a doc to start with:

Hi Cory. I didnt say the instructions were confusing. I indicated the instructions I got (from a Youtube video) indicated that PSbeta, when installed, would run independent of PS. So I expected to install it, have 2 PS icons, and find my PS worked as always. So I installed it on my Macbook Pro and I only had an app icon for PSbeta. When I launched the PS plugin out of LR, PS ran not PSbeta, so the standard version was still there. I did not configure the "Edit with" to point to PSbeta because I dont get involved with choosing executable files and such technical stuff. I just wanted to run the beta version as a standalone anyway to experience the new changes but didnt expect the standard version app icon to disappear. The Photoshop interface is still very complex for me and I try not to do things I dont understand with app configuration. I am trying to learn as quickly as possible.

@jamesgerboc

I've moved your post to the Photoshop Beta forum for you.

Edited subject to include "replaced Photoshop" for clarity

No worries — more posts are going to the Photoshop forum than to Photoshop Beta forum because the Beta forum is hidden from view and people have no way to find it.

You should be able to install both. On macOS you can run several versions at the same time, but as I understand it, on Windows you can have both installed, but run one at a time. The Beta should not replace the released version. You might try again. If it doesn't work, we can tag staff to look at your thread.
